In 2019, the Irvine Nature Center removed over 5.5 tons of trash, including 50 tires, a boat propeller, mattresses, a toilet, phone books and various car parts from all of their clean-up sites (Garrison Forest Road, Crondall Lane and several schools). Join them this year to see how much you can accomplish to make the watershed cleaner and safer. Irvine’s goal is to involve more than 400 volunteers (ages 14+)!
Will you help?
Irvine is still looking for additional sites to clean up. If you are interested in focusing on your workplace, school, or neighborhood you can become a site captain! Site captains recruit volunteers for their clean up, lead volunteers the day of the event, and turn in the site’s clean up results. Clean ups can be held any time during the month of April, and all supplies are provided by Irvine Nature Center and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay.
In addition to site captains Irvine Nature Center is also in need of pick-up trucks to help haul trash/recycling. Please contact the email below if you are willing to drive. There is free parking for attendees. It is suggested that you wear sunglasses and a hat as most activities occur outside. Irvine will provide water/snacks, trash bags, gloves and a safety visibility vest.
Teens and adults will walk alongside roads, while children will pick up trash in our parking lot, outdoor classroom and trails. This is a family friendly activity, so please invite your family, friends, neighbors, neighbor's friends, neighbor's friends' families and so on!
